Or Make It Yourself:

The “Art of the Trench” is a beautiful thing. The trench coat is quite possibly one of the most classic staples that everyone should own. My friends, Hillary and Katherine of WHO WHAT WEAR, who have a new j’amazing book, “WHAT TO WEAR, WHERE”, agree that one of the most coveted pieces this spring hails from BURBERRY. Designer, Christopher Bailey, added a new spin on the iconic trench coat, giving us goosebumps with metallic accents to embellish. Severe and sexy spikes are certainly a Spring trend to steal (say that tongue twister!)
Get inspired by Burberry, and create your own version. Reach for lots of chopsticks (use anywhere from 50-100 pairs or more if you crave more spike-age). Using a handsaw (carefully) and cut down chopsticks tops. If you don’t feel comfortable with a saw, try heavy duty clippers. In a well-ventilated area, spray paint the spikes, gold. Wait till dry, flip over- and spray to cover. Use chalk to outline where the spikes will go. Use droplets of hot glue on the bottoms of the spikes, place down- and hold for a few seconds till they set. Remove any straggly glue hair strands, let dry- and rock it!
Winter White is where my heart is heading. Crisp hues of white mixed with shiny metallic details is a must for mixed media. Any addition of nails heads and studding is always super chic and classic. These dotted details are found on furniture to fashion. If you have spare shoe boxes or jewelry boxes this is a great face lift project that screams Designer DIY.
Cover boxes with white paper or use spray paint or buy new ones. Mine came from the Container Store http://www.containerstore.com/shop/giftPackaging/giftBoxes?productId=10003735
Hit up your local hardware store for upholstery tacks and thumbtacks. Push them into the boxes, create patterns, spell out your initials- get creative! Use for a decorative accent on display- also makes a great gift wrap.
It’s only rock n’ roll but, P.S.- I like it! We’ve said it before and we’ll sing it again, nothing goes together like music & fashion. The glam rock movement emerged in the 60s with artists like Gary Glitter and David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust defining an era, and inciting designers and fashionistas to make bold statements with exaggerated make up, androgynously edgy styles and gems, stones and jewels stacked for miles. Nobody blings it on better than the indisputable rock god of couture Karl Lagerfeld…who infuses head to toe concert chic in his creations for Chanel, Fendi and his own eponymous lines. We took to the stage, with Who What Wear, to turn a simple shoulder bag into an embellished instrument of DIY style! To create: Re-purpose a bag with a removable strap. Use caribiners to secure a guitar strap onto the bag by clipping where the original strap was secured. Gather various pearls, gemstones, studs, crystals and rhinestones and lay out to cover the front of the guitar strap. Once you are happy with placement begin to stud and glue each in place. P.S.- use tweezers to help you place each embellishment as you glue. Allow to try before you wear!

Love,
Me
